Hi, I’m Janey DeMeo—the Brit from France who hates tea (java, please). You may know me as founder-president of Orphans First. I’m passionate about helping suffering children. If you are too, browse my site: www.orphansfirst.org

This website focuses less on Orphans First, and more on my speaking and writing ministry; it highlights my life as a writer, speaker, pastor’s wife and mom. Find my bio at: “About Janey ”. Or, if you just want to know why I’m so whacky and capture where my unique slant comes from, scroll down this page.

You’ll find articles and book excerpts I’ve written, along with spatterings of my writing as you browse this site. Click on Books to read the book sI've published or Credentials & Clips for other snippets of writing.  Read my reflections on culture, life, and all kinds of other good stuff on my blog. Discover my Speaking & Writing Topics.

I see myself as a Christ follower. God is there to pick me up when I fail (which I do—often!). To know more about Jesus.

If you have a few minutes, grab a cuppa and browse…Hopefully you’ll find inspiration, comfort and perhaps even challenges herein. My thought is: We have but one life to live. May we use it to do that which it was given us to do. If we do, our life will bless others and glorify God.

My Excuse For Being Whacky – and Why This Site is a Bowl of Minestrone Soup!

So why’s this site like a bowl of Minestrone soup? Simple. I’m a Brit married to an Italian-American with two kids who were born and raised in France—where we lived for over two decades. Our life together has been filled with adventures. My husband, Louis, is a pastor and prolific church-planter.

Louis discovered a large spider in his cup of tea in India—after he’d already drunk it. (Ha! And he wonders why I don’t like tea!). As for me, I nearly died in the third world. I’ve contracted malaria in Africa, flown on a plane plagued with cockroaches, befriended a python in India, and was bitten by a monkey there. (And then got rabies shots—in the middle of an overcrowded, Indian street!)

Before my firstborn, Rachele, was a year old, she had traveled with us to 11 countries. As a teen, she got lost skiing in the French Alps and a rat ran across her head in India. Our son, Francesco, got his best hair cut ever—back when haircuts were still hip—in a tiny barber’s shop in the heart of Sardinia. He also got lost in Italy—and at the airport. (I almost entitled my parenting book Heaven Help Me Not Lose These Children! instead of Heaven Help Me Raise These Children). Poor kids!

These are just a few—a very few—of our family adventures. I share more of them in my writing, particularly my book, Heaven Help Me Raise These Children!--Biblical Direction To Practical Parenting Issues! ! (Written in France, it exists in French entitled Mon Dieu, ces enfants!). Soaked in cultural diversity, illustrative anecdotes and biblical truths, the book will make you laugh and weep.

See what we learned skiing on the French Cévennes slopes

Or on the Italian-Riviera

Or in Romania

From the Bible…(taken from the section focusing on 1 Sam.30)…
